Harriett ushered Julian to a large armchair situated near to the fire; 'Come, sit down and rest. Warm yourself. I will organise a hot beverage for you; I am sure you would welcome that!'
'Thank you,' uttered Julian. His voice sounded a little hoarse and he tried to clear his throat with light sporadic coughs. He had not spoken to anyone for a while and his voice felt unfamiliar to him, a strange sound to his ears.
Julian eased himself down onto the chair as Harriett left the room, presumably to organise drinks and maybe food; Julian was hoping for a bite to eat. Hunger was beginning to rise.
Those who looked on felt the same hunger, whether it was for food or other nourishment.........................
